====== BootFriend Installation (WonderWitch OS upgrade) ======

This method is no longer recommended, but has been preserved for historical reasons.

  - Create a BootFriend splash screen on [[https://wonderful.asie.pl/ws/bootfriend/]]. When done configuring, select ''Download bootfriend-inst-wwsystem.bin (WonderWitch OS upgrade)''
    * It is not necessary to change any configuration details; the default blank splash screen is sufficient.
  - Turn on the console and start the WonderWitch cartridge in Freya Monitor mode. To do this, hold B while the console is turning on.
  - Use TransMagic (or XMODEM transfer) to back up FreyaOS.
    * Select the ''Send System'' option.
    * If you forget to do this, you can find a copy of FreyaOS 1.2.0 on [[http://wonderwitch.qute.co.jp/index_wwp.html|Qute's website]] (=> ダウンロード).
  - Use TransMagic (or XMODEM transfer) to write ''bootfriend-inst-wwsystem.bin''.
    * Select the ''Recv System'' option.
  - Turn the console off, then on, to start the BootFriend installer program. Make sure the status bar at the top says ''EEP unlocked''.
  - Optional: If you have a custom splash screen installed, you may use the ''Backup IEEPROM'' options to copy the existing splash screen to cartridge SRAM or through XMODEM serial transfer to a file on your PC.
  - Select ''Install BootFriend'' and follow the on-screen instructions.
  - If successful, the right-hand side of the status bar at the top should now display ''BF v.??'', with ''??'' being the version number.
  - Turn off the console. BootFriend should now be installed - you can verify this by turning the console on **with a different cartridge** while holding Y3.
  - To restore, use TransMagic (or XMODEM transfer) to write the FreyaOS copy created in step 3.
    * Select the ''Recv System'' option.

===== Troubleshooting =====

  * To uninstall BootFriend, use the ''Disable BootFriend'' option.
  * The console will not turn on at all if no cartridge is present in the cartridge slot.
  * The ''Test BootFriend'' option may be used to test loading .bfb programs without installing BootFriend - naturally, these programs won't have access to console functionality only available during boot ROM execution.
